I was going through INT specification on this document - INT_v2_1.pdf (p4.org). I am just curious to know about what the difference between queue and buffer is as mentioned on page 8 (Queue occupancy, Buffer occupancy). Queue here is understood to be ingress and egress queues. But what exactly is buffer and how different it is from queue?
I believe the intent there is that buffer is the total occupancy of the packet buffer, i.e. proportional to the total depth of all queues for all ports. It is a “global” sign of congestion in a switch, not a measure specific to one port like queue depth is.
