Curated bibliography of In-Band Network Telemetry (INT) research — contributions welcome

I have been maintaining a curated chronological bibliography of research on In-Band Network Telemetry (INT) and would like to make it available to the broader P4 community.

Awesome In-Band Network Telemetry

The list focuses specifically on papers where INT itself is a central research contribution—for example, work on INT overhead, sampling, encoding, probing, collection, path planning, programmability, scalability, or deployment.

It intentionally excludes papers that only use INT as a measurement source for an otherwise unrelated networking problem.

The repository also defines explicit policies for publication year and multiple versions of the same work, so that conference, journal, poster, and preprint versions are handled consistently.

I would appreciate feedback from people working on P4/INT, particularly on:

  • archival INT papers that may be missing;

  • papers that may fall outside the intended scope;

  • newer work that should be tracked.

Authors are welcome to submit their own papers. There is a structured Submit a paper issue form in the repository, so submitting a missing paper only requires its title, venue, year, link, and a brief description of the INT contribution.

I hope this can become a useful shared bibliography for the INT research community.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I think it’s a fantastic initiative, and I’m really excited to see something like this for the P4/INT community. Thanks again for putting it together. I really hope it becomes a useful shared reference for everyone working in this area. I’ll also add anything relevant I come across if it hasn’t already been included.
